The village is built on an ancient Roman ruin.

Water: in the west of the village a spring called Ayn Iqrit. It is plentiful. In winter water is taken directly from the spring and in summer water is drawn by bucket. Near the village is another spring, but it is smaller. In addition there are many water holes. [Almost each village had plentiful and rich springs. They are all gone now.]

Roads the internal ones are not paved but their condition is good in winter because the village is built on a hilltop. Cars reach it on the road from al-Basa [see village file]. There is a bus from Acre. The roads lead east to Tarshiha [see village file] south to Fasuta [see the file], north to Lebanon and west to al-Basa.

Buildings stone and loam and the new ones concrete. The fences - stone and brambles.

Wadis [riverbed valleys]: to the north Wadi Karkar, to the south another wadi.

There are no khirbas [ruined old settlements] around.

Livestock: 200 heads of cattle, 500 goats, 25 camels and some chickens.

Land five thousand dunams divided into plots but in one stretch, mountain land and forest.

Plantations: olives and figs.

Main crops: seasonal field crops [very often wheat and barley], olives and tobacco.  There are no land-owning effendis. Average plot per family - about 50 dunams. There are families with no land, they work for the other families. Have not developed land in recent years. Have not received land from the government. There is no irrigated land. There are no ties with the waqf.

Number of residents: 400, all Christian. Men aged 18-48 - 75.

Families:

1. Al-Ashkar, 40 people, leader Ibrahim al-Ashkar.

2. Al-Zin, 25 people, leader Na'amat Ala al-Zin.

Mukhtar: Na'amat Ala al-Zin. There is no village committee.

[schools] There is a denominational school. The Catholic Church bears its cost, with the help of the residents. 30 pupils. The teacher - Dib al Gergyus from the village.

[artisans] There are no artisans.

[shops] There are three shops.

[employment] There are no government officials, there are no railway workers or workers in public works. Have not migrated to the towns. There are no guesthouses. There are no public expenditures. There are no relatives of consequence. 

[Ties with Jews] There are no ties with the Jews; neither workers nor guards for the Jews.

[churches] There is one church for the Catholic community. Elias is the name of the priest.

[guards] There are three gaffirs [security men] with the government. There is no village guard.

Relations with the government are good.

During the Troubles [the Arab Revolt]: none of the villagers joined the rebels, and no damage was caused to the village by the army. The rebels murdered the previous mukhtar whom they accused of notifying the government that the rebels visit the village.
